The incident, which reportedly took place in Portmore, has ignited calls for greater accountability, safety protocols, and respect for women working in Jamaica’s entertainment and music sectors.
TW: Physical Abuse, Verbal Harassment
According to accounts circulating online, the altercation began after one of the video vixens politely asked Qwella’s cousin not to smoke near her due to her asthma. The request was allegedly met with hostility and verbal disrespect, which then escalated when Qwella himself, along with other team members, including someone identified as Chulops—who reportedly helped coordinate the talent—began verbally abusing the women.
When one of the video vixens declined to continue shooting and requested to change her outfit before leaving, the situation allegedly turned violent. Eyewitnesses claim that after a verbal exchange, during which Qwella reportedly told the woman to "guh s*** yuh mada," she responded with a similar remark, prompting the artist to physically attack her.
“He came back in the room and started to punch her in her face,” a source said. “All because she gave back the same disrespect he gave her first.”
Artist Goes Silent as Community Reacts
Since the incident went public, Qwella has allegedly deactivated or hidden his TikTok and Instagram accounts. Meanwhile, several disturbing voice notes have surfaced online, allegedly from women mocking the victim and defending the artist, with some even claiming she "should have gotten more."
These responses have fueled widespread anger, with many calling for solidarity among video vixens, dancers, and models who often face disrespect and exploitation on set. The victim has since shared images of her injuries, reinforcing the serious nature of the alleged assault.
Industry Backlash and Growing Support
Outrage is growing across social media, with the hashtags #ProtectWomenInEntertainment and #VideoVixensDeserveRespect gaining traction. Many within the industry are calling for action—not just against Qwella, but also to establish clear boundaries and protections for women who work behind the scenes in dancehall and other music genres.
“We are not disposable,” one video vixen posted. “We deserve safety, respect, and dignity. This is not the first time something like this has happened, but it needs to be the last.”
Several artists, creatives, and influencers have voiced their support for the victim, calling on event organizers and video directors to blacklist any performer or crew member involved in physical or verbal abuse.
Our Opinion
The entertainment industry cannot continue to excuse violence under the guise of ego, fame, or creative tension. What happened on that video shoot is more than just a personal dispute—it reflects a wider culture of impunity and disrespect towards women, especially those who are essential to the visuals and vibes of our music scene. Accountability must be immediate and transparent.
